Falling in love is easy.
Falling out of love is the hardest thing in the world.
And Elin and Ty Whitt are terrible at it.
The first time the local basketball star smiled at Elin, she was a goner. It was just so damn easy to fall for the dark-haired hometown hero with his charming smile and strong, athletic build.
Thousands of sleepy smiles, aimless drives down country roads, and squeaks of the backdoor after a swing shift later, reality hits. And it hits hard. Falling in love was definitely the easy part. Watching it break apart was impossible.
Through the tears, the second-guesses, the memories of a life built together, the world keeps spinning. With each turn comes clarity and hope—sometimes in the form of a pair of muddy boots by the back door or from the words of a wise friend.
When Ty shows back up with a new found determination to put his family back together, Elin's torn between the fights of the past and the possibility of a new start. This is the man that holds her heart, the man she loves beyond anything else. But this is also the one person in the world that can cause her the most pain.
Life’s not always easy. Love’s not for the faint of heart. But with life comes lessons and Ty and Elin have the scars to prove it. But it's their love written in those scars that will hold them together … or break them apart.
As soon as the call is ended, my finger is in his chest. “You lied to me!”
“Calm down,” he scoffs, clearly entertained by my reaction.
“I’m not calming down! She called you. The girl that you didn’t do anything with.”
I start to march to the door, but his arm is around my waist, dragging me into his arms. “Will you stop acting like this?” he laughs. “What’s wrong with you?”
My arms pinned to my sides, I struggle to break free. “You are what’s wrong with me.”
“Tell you what,” he says, resting his head on the top of my head. “Let’s make a deal.”
“I don’t deal with liars.”
“I don’t normally deal with lunatics, either, but I’m making an exception tonight, so I guess you can too.”
The complete lack of fear or frustration in his voice calms me a little. I stop fighting to pull away.
“Let’s go in and have dinner with our friends. Then we can go to bed and I will tell you everything you want to know about her.” He plants a kiss to the back of my head. “And if you’re a good girl, I’ll let you have my cock after we’re done talking.”
“I doubt I’ll want it,” I sigh, trying to not succumb to him.
“There you go, lying again,” he laughs. Swatting me on my ass towards the house, I reach for his hand. He laces our fingers together and we head inside.

Q&A With Adriana Locke
AUTHOR: ADRIANA LOCKE
Writing Questions
1. What's next for you?
What are you currently working on?
I’m writing Swing for a Decemeber release. It’s about
Lincoln Landry - you may have met him
earlier this year in Sway. ;) He’s the centerfielder for the Tennessee Arrows.
I’m loving him. Flirty, arrogant, and so much fun, he might be my favorite
character I’ve ever created.
2. How much of yourself do you write in a book? Are any of the characters "you"?
I think all of my heroines have pieces of me, although I
wouldn’t say any of them are totally me. Jada (The Exception) has my feelings
of vulnerability. Kari (The Perception) has my pride – always wanting to do
things myself. Julia (Sacrifice) is a mom and we share a lot of that fierceness
about our children. Brynne (Wherever It Leads) has my fear of letting my hair
down, while Alison (Sway) has my need to stand on my own two feet. I’m more
like Elin (Written in the Scars) than the others, I’d say. She and I both love
very deeply, yet demand respect.
3. Are any of your characters based on people you know ?
Oh, yes. Especially the villains. ;)
On the other hand, my mom is pretty much Max’s mom in The
Perception. Pres is a lot like my friend Author Mandi Beck. My husband is
reflected in parts of Cane (The Exception) and Crew (Sacrifice). There are lots
of little pieces in a lot of my characters from people I know.
4. If your book was made into a movie which actor/actress
would you want to play the main characters?
Charlie Hunnam is my Cane. Tom Hardy my Crew. Scott Eastwood
is my Barrett (Sway) and Taylor Kinney is my Ty (Written in the Scars).
5. What signings are you attending?
I’ll be at Talkbooks Author Event in early April, as well as
Authors in the Bluegrass in late April. In October, I’ll be traveling back to
Love N Vegas.
6. Does music influence you in your writing? Do you have a
playlist?
7. Do you have a Favorite snack while writing?
Cinnamon gummy bears! I love them.
Personal Questions
1. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things
would you need with you?
A lighter,
sunglasses, and a tube of Burt’s Bees for my lips.
2.
Favorite movie, music, sport or color?
Movie: The Blind Side, Steel Magnolias,
Sweet Home Alabama, Tombstone, Troy, Gladiator, Fight Club (not one – I’m a
rule breaker)
Sport: Football. Gah! I live for football
season. I also really like MMA and boxing.
Julian
Edelman, wide receiver for the New England Patriots. swoon
4. If you Could Live In A Book, Tv Show Or Movie, What Would
It Be?
I would
really have no problem being Jax Teller’s girl in SOA. Just saying.
5. If you Could Travel Anywhere In The World, Where Would It
Be?
Greece.
It’s beautiful and has so much rich history. It would be incredible to visit.
6. What Was Your Dream Job Growing Up?
I remember
wanting to be a writer, archaeologist, attorney, a Supreme Court Judge, and a
nurse practitioner.
7. What do you like to do for fun?
I like to
be outside. Gardening, walking, doing yard work—it really doesn’t matter as
long as I have sunshine!
8. What's your guilty pleasure?
YouTube.
It’s a time-consuming pit of entertainment and information. I could scroll
around there for hours.
9. Favorite drink?
Fountain
Coke in a Styrofoam cup with crushed ice.
10. Favorite superhero?
Which one
was Henry Cavill? That’s my answer.
11. Cake or pie?
I’m equal
opportunity dessert.
12. Favorite candy bar?
It depends
on my mood. You can’t go wrong with a Snickers bar though.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I don't even know where to go with this review. I finished the book yesterday and still don't have the words. I have a feeling this is going to be one long book hangover. Let me just preface this as well by saying this is not an easy read. This is a read that will be hard to get through, but will be worth every tear shed and every inkling to throw your reading device. It is worth it for every laugh and every swoony moment read. This is not just one of my favorite reads of the month or even the year; this is one of my favorite reads. It is going into my top reads of all time. I was blown away by this book. The intensity, the love, the chemistry, it all just jumps off the page and drags you in. I attempted to read this book at work, yeah that didn't happen. I had to take a break and finish when I could give this story the attention it deserves. The characters were real and relatable. Ty is definitely my new book boyfriend. He is charming and sweet and recognizes his faults, but does everything he can to make up for them. E is strong and emotional and at times, my heart breaks for both of them. The secondary characters are just as well written as the main characters as well. They were just as important in the story as the main characters and made just as much of an impact. I am in love with all of the characters. I loved every minute of reading this book and wish I could go back to read for the first time already to experience the same feelings. I love everything that Adriana writes and this is no different. This book is absolutely beautiful and will stay with you for a long long time.
